I'm Netaka White, or just Tak (hint: sounds like "tock") - writing in from Vermont.
Hemp found me in 1988, and has since been a regular part of my diet, career, and lifestyle. As my understanding and experience of hemp grew, I kept exploring; as an artisan, entrepreneur, advocate, grower, and producer.
Have you noticed too, hemp can be habit forming?
Thankfully, my affair with hemp hasn't hurt our marriage (my wife is amazing!) This journey has lasted through our years of raising children and several businesses. There's always something new to discover, keeping things fresh and interesting.

I'm excited to be working with hemp on this platform; sharing stories and updates, product information, techniques, and commentary... and evolving it as we go.
I'm also seeking to connect with other entrepreneurs, growers and writers. Reach out to me, I'd love to hear what interests and inspires you in the hemp experience. What are you learning that you want to share?
When I say, "Hemp spoken here" what I mean is, "we speak the same language". This language is energizing our culture right now, and that's something worth talking about.
In 1988, Ronald ("Just Say No") Reagan was president, the music was mostly forgettable. ... and an insurgent manifesto by Jack Herer, The Emperor Wears No Clothes was lighting up hearts and minds on hemp. I was hooked.
At that time, I was completing a fiber arts education in Southern Oregon. Out of college, I launched Artisan Hemp Gear (1989), and after moving to Vermont, opened a hemp mercantile in Middlebury with my wife and brothers (1997). We sold Artisan in 2001, and closed the store a couple years later. My Hemp v1.0 had ended. That 'end', it turns out, was just the beginning. |
In 2014, I co-founded Full Sun Company, where we built and ran New England's first non-GMO verified mill for making artisanal cold pressed oils. We had a good run.
Not long ago, we sold the mill to an emerging hemp company from Kentucky, Victory Hemp Foods (check them out, delicious hemp foods and all US grown and produced!) After working at Victory to set up their Vermont operations, I decided it was time for me to change gears... |
With this shift, I now focus full time on hemp business consulting, writing, and advocating for hemp in Vermont. As an organic grower, I also tend to the family apothecary, and offer workshops for new and returning home growers.
I see the December 20, 2018 signing of the Farm Bill, and the end of hemp prohibition as the defining moment in a generation for the American hemp experience. With legalization comes even more opportunity to explore, innovate, and contribute than ever before. And there's room for everybody. All Aboard!
